The Importance of the Job Title in Korean Business | |

In business around the world your job title is very important. It tells people what your level is in your company/industry and what you do. More importantly it will have an influence on how highly you will be considered in doing business. In Korea the title is important to work with, not only business partners, but also with your colleagues and peers. The title represents the number of years of work experience. If these two are not matched accordingly, it can cause some misunderstanding working together with someone and eventually influence the performance of the employee. Also in the recruitment process, it could influence a candidate¡¯s decision to join a company. This unique Korean system does not always match with some of the global job title structures applied by foreign companies. Foreign companies often solve this matter by using two titles. One internally used title that designates the level within the foreign company globally and one appropriate to the domestically applied structure.
